“We are the outgoing outgoing”: these deputies of the presidential majority beaten in the legislative elections

by time news

They hoped to re-enlist, but will have to find a new life. 114 deputies from the presidential coalition represented themselves this year under the colors of “Together! for a new consecutive mandate… and were defeated in the legislative elections. “We are the outgoing outgoing”, summarizes Jean-François Eliaou, one of them.

These defeats lead, among other factors, to the fact that Emmanuel Macron will not be able to count on an absolute majority of 289 elected members of the National Assembly. They also illustrate the “slap” suffered by the Head of State. The presidential coalition won only 245 seats in the end. The fall is heavy: in 2017, the Republic in March and the MoDem had elected, between them, 350 deputies.

In this list, appear nothing less than the president of the National Assembly Richard Ferrand, the president of the LREM group Christophe Castaner, that of the MoDem group Patrick Mignola, the two quaestors Florian Bachelier and Laurianne Rossi, as well as the general rapporteur of the Finance Commission Laurent Saint-Martin. So many elected officials who held positions of responsibility and who will no longer sit in the hemicycle. There are also the two ministers Brigitte Bourguignon and Amélie de Montchalin. These had given way to their deputy, because of the government functions they already exercised at the end of Macron’s first five-year term.

26 outgoing eliminated in the first round

Other outgoing deputies who have sometimes been at the heart of the news are also beaten. We can cite the vice-president of the National Assembly Sylvain Waserman, the elected representative of Paris Laetitia Avia (known in particular for her fight against online harassment… and for accusations of harassment of which she has been the subject), the farmer Jean-Baptiste Moreau or even the spokesperson for the LREM group Marie-Christine Verdier-Jouclas.

When questioned, she “finds it crazy that we can elect a president for a new term and that we do everything so that he does not have a majority”, while denying any “excess of confidence” of his go.

26 of these 114 pro-Macron candidates had been eliminated in the first round, Sunday June 12. “People are very unhappy, they have the degagism in their mouths, and they believe that we must experiment with something else because things do not suit them”, estimates Jean-François Eliaou (4th district of Hérault) , one of them. Immunologist by profession, he will now resume his full-time activity at the hospital.
