the French vice-champions of Europe in foil

by time news

Beaten in the final 45-25 against Italy, Les Bleues brought the tricolor delegation a seventh medal on Monday, in Antalya, Turkey.

Les Bleues could not do anything against the Italians who raced in the lead for almost all of the final, winning 7 out of 9 matches. The France team was made up of Solène Butruille and three of the four foil fencers team silver medalists at the Tokyo Olympics: Ysaora Thibus, Anita Blaze and Pauline Ranvier. The Italians of Alice Volpi and Arrianna Errigo were bronze medalists last summer in Japan.

This is the 7th French medal in these European championships, which will continue until Wednesday in Turkey, still with the team events. No medal, however, for men in sabre. The Blues, beaten by Turkey 45-39, finished fourth. Maxime Pianfetti, Sebastien Patrice, Bolade Aputhy and Eliott Bibi formed the tricolor clan. The latter two had obtained individual bronze a few days earlier.
