Legislative: “Neither pact nor coalition” with the majority, repeats the president of LR Christian Jacob

by time news

The proposal for a “government pact”, launched Sunday evening by Jean-François Copé, will undoubtedly remain a dead letter. “We are in opposition to the government to Emmanuel Macron and we remain on this line”, assured Monday the president of LR, Christian Jacob, who intends to keep his party on the initiative in a role “of responsible opposition”, following a strategic council of his party.

In this context, there is “no question of a pact, coalition or agreement of any kind”, continued Jacob, while LR could theoretically represent the necessary support for Emmanuel Macron to vote for his reforms. On the other hand, the party will be “force of proposal on each of the proposed texts”, he added.

The Republicans will also, by the fall, “a series of proposals” on various subjects ranging from education to immigration. “We will present either before the end of the summer or in the fall a series of proposals on the various subjects which concern the French”, he assured, listing “purchasing power, security, health , national education, immigration…”.

No fear of new “poaching”

Each time, “we will put forward four or five points”, he added. Christian Jacob mentioned bills “that we will do in agreement with the Senate group” and that “we will prepare very quickly”.

This line of opposition is “almost unanimous”, he added, while the mayor of Meaux, Jean-François Copé, made waves by talking about a government pact on Sunday evening. As for the idea of new starts for the macronie, the boss of the Republicans estimated “that in terms of poaching, what had to be done has been done, I do not have much concern”.

Asked about a possible vote of confidence in the government, he assured “that no LR deputy will vote for confidence. But I think it will not be requested”. At the end of the second round, Les Républicains lost their place as leader of the opposition in the National Assembly, but managed to save around sixty seats. They could have a major role, while Emmanuel Macron failed to obtain an absolute majority.
