“Monster Fish”: A sea creature weighing 300 kg was found and broke a world record

by time news

The largest fish in the world that lives in freshwater is found: sturgeon – a sea cat with an impressive weight of 300 kg caught by Cambodian villagers in the Mekong River.

In order to carry the sea creature about 3 meters long, the locals needed the help of 12 sturdy men who together managed to drag it ashore. The animal was released back into the river after an electronic chip was attached to it, to allow scientists who have confirmed that it is the largest in the world living in freshwater, to track its movements.

“This is absolutely exciting news, to find without any planning the largest fish in the world living in freshwater,” said biologist Zev Hogan, a former presenter of the “Sea Monsters” program on National Geographic Channel, and now part of the river use project. “The even better news is that we have noticed that the seal is healthy, it is a sign that these huge fish continue to breed,” Hogan added.
