An attempted coup d’état has taken place in Sudan. According to local media reports, a group of armed men attempted to seize a number of important targets near the capital Khartoum. According to national television, the Sudanese army managed to take control of the situation and prevent a coup.

“Everything is under control and the revolution has won,” spokesman for the Sudanese Sovereign Council, Muhammad al-Faki Suleiman, wrote on his Facebook page. He also clarified that an official statement on the fact of the incident will be issued in the near future.

According to unconfirmed reports, the coup was organized by a group of former and current officers who tried to seize the state media building in the city located on the opposite bank of the Nile from Khartoum. About 40 officers are reported to have been detained by local authorities.
