Bayu Widodo belongs to the second generation of the controversial Indonesian artist group Taring Padi from Yogyakarta. Founded in 2002, it was part of the protest movement against General Suharto, who ruled the country with dictatorial power for 30 years. It is estimated that up to a million were killed in several massacres under his rule.
