Phnom Penh The world’s largest freshwater fish has been found in Cambodia. The fisherman was caught in a huge net weighing 300 kg. It is the largest fish found in the world’s flowing rivers. Never before has such a large fish been found. Thirandi was captured in the province of Sang Trang in northern Cambodia.

The fisherman informed the local government and marine biologists when the giant fish was caught in the net. They came and measured the length and the weight of the fish. The fish was 13 feet long and weighed 300 kg. After the measurement, photos were taken and the acoustic tag was attached to the fish’s body and released back into the Mekong River itself. It provides information on the river’s habitat, food and beverages.

Earlier in 2005, a giant weighing 293 kilograms was caught from this river in Thailand. The US has registered these fish under the Wonders of the Mekong Research program. Fish biologists from the Wonders of Mekong project are searching for large freshwater fish on six continents of the world. This search has been going on for 20 years.

More than a thousand species of fish live in the Mekong River. In addition to the trout, the giant whole and the giant barb fish are also found here. The Mekong River originates in China and flows through Thailand, Laos, Myanmar, Cambodia, and Vietnam.
