District level chess tournament for school boys and girls in Salem

The Chess Olympiad will be held in Chennai and Mahabalipuram in July and August.

The Government of Tamil Nadu has allocated Rs. 100 crore for this and preparations for the Olympiad are in full swing.

Young players are being selected from all over Tamil Nadu to watch the Chess Olympiad. Accordingly, the district level chess tournaments will be held on 25th and 26th at the Notary Tom Holy Cross School premises, Salem Udayappatti on behalf of the Salem District Chess Association.

The matches are scheduled to start at 9 am on the 25th (Saturday) and will be played on the basis of 9 rounds. Matches are for under-15s only. The district chess club has informed that students from all schools across the district can participate in the tournament.

Trophies and certificates are to be awarded to the young athletes who win these competitions. Arrangements have also been made for the first-place finisher to watch the Olympics live in Mahabalipuram.

Accommodation, meals, and travel expenses at the star hotels are to be borne by the chess club, officials said.

The competition schedule has been sent to all the schools.
