Due to the shortage of technical staff in transport corporations, assistant engineers are involved in repair work to operate the buses.
On behalf of the State Transport Corporation, through 325 workshops, 22 thousand, 125 buses are operated. While there are 1.35 lakh people involved in its operation and maintenance work, at present, there are only 85 thousand, 150 people.
As of May 30, 1,200 people had retired, while on June 30, 1,450 were due to retire. As a result, more than 2,000 buses have been stopped across Tamil Nadu.
Workshops are suspended without even repairing minor repairs caused by a shortage of technical staff.
There is no other option but to carry out tasks including process engineer, bachelor engineers, removing the tire and burning the bulbs.
According to the union, 20 per cent of buses in operation in July and August will be manned. We need to immediately hire the necessary staff for all the divisions to run the buses without any hindrance.
