86 lakh has been allotted to hold a chess match between Chennai-Government School students.

The International Chess Olympiad will be held in Mamallapuram, Chengalpattu district from next month to August. Based on this, it is proposed to conduct awareness programs on chess in all schools. The Government School Physical Education Directors, through physical education teachers, have decided to reach out to the students through one-day refresher training, through chess experts, on the rules and sports techniques of the chess tournament.

First grade to fifth grade; Sixth grade to eighth grade; Ninth and tenth grade; The competitions are to be held in four divisions, as Plus 1 and Plus 2 class. Competitions will be held at the school level for the first division and at the school, regional and district levels for the other divisions.

In each district, eight students will be selected and given the opportunity to watch the ‘Chess Olympiad’ competition. It has been decided to have them discuss with the international chess players. Certificates and prizes will be given to the students who win in all the stages. The government has set aside 86 lakh rupees for this.
