The Asus ROG Phone 5 and 5S are among the best phones for gamers. It’s not just their looks, they are packed with features that make them great portable gaming devices. When you’re not playing games, the two are excellent Android smartphones. Nothing is perfect, however, and the flagship Asus has its fair share of problems. Problem #1: Motherboard failure and other hardware problems

As gaming phones, the Asus ROG Phone 5 and 5S can handle just about anything. However, an unfortunate hardware failure has caused many problems for the owners. ROG Phone 5 owners have encountered various issues due to motherboard failure. The only solution is to have the phone repaired or replaced. But the list below will give you an idea that if the standard troubleshooting steps (safe mode, clearing cache, etc.) don’t work, then it might be a hardware issue.
- Phone not working (motherboard issue): You know it’s a motherboard malfunction when the phone is completely dead and doesn’t turn on. For most users, a phone not turning on means they have to replace the motherboard. You can try to connect the phone to the charger and do a soft reset (press and hold the power button and volume down key until the phone restarts).
- Phone not working (external device problem): For some users, the AeroActive fan attachment causes the phone to turn on and off. In this case, remove the accessory, connect the phone to charge, and perform a soft reset after 30 minutes to restart the phone.
- The bottom speaker is making sounds or not working: Rog Phone 5 owners say that problems they have had with the phone’s bottom speaker not working or making strange sounds related to a motherboard failure. For some users, it appears that the heat from excessive gaming has also caused the speakers to break.
- Air starters not working: Phone air starters are another piece of hardware that seems to stop working when the motherboard fails.

Problem #2: Touch sensitivity

It’s common for ROG Phone 5 owners to experience touch sensitivity issues, given how critical reaction times are with many games. Here are some of the ways you can make changes to your phone’s touch sensitivity settings.
Possible solutions:
- If you have applied a screen protector or want to enhance the phone’s touch sensitivity in general, go to Settings>Advanced وتمكين glove mode.
- With the Armory Crate app, you can also make game-specific touch sensitivity changes. For general device settings, go to Control unit Team. You can choose from various pre-set game modes such as X Mode, Dynamic, and Ultra Durable, which offer different levels of touch sensitivity. You can also choose advancedtap on release, and adjust sensitivity levels to exactly what you need. You can make these game-specific changes as well. Tap a game in the library, go to touch tab, and adjust the sensitivity settings.
Problem #3: Push notification issues

Some ROG 5S owners say they don’t get push notifications on their phones and can only see them once they open the app. The biggest complaints are with the Gmail app, but users face this problem with other apps as well.
Possible solutions:
- go to the Settings>Advanced>Mobile Manager. go to the Auto start Settings and make sure the problematic application is enabled. You can also disable the app at very clean List if you have Super clean mode active. Depending on your phone’s software version, you can also find your phone’s auto-start settings by going to Settings > Battery > Auto-start manager.
- go to the Settings > Battery > Battery optimizationtap on the problem app, and select no improvement.
Problem #4: The PC does not recognize the phone

A few users say that their PC doesn’t recognize the phone when it’s connected, and they can’t transfer files between devices.
Possible solutions:
- You will need to enable USB debugging mode in the developer options. If the hidden menu is not enabled, go to Settings>System>About phone>Software version and press complete the number Seven times or until you see a message that says “You are now a developer.” Now go to Settings > System > Developer Options وتمكين USB debugging.
- Some cheap third-party cables can only be used to charge the phone and do not support data transfers. The best option is to use the cable that you get with the phone. You should also consider these excellent third-party cables.
- Your phone should detect when you connect it to your computer to transfer files. If it doesn’t switch automatically, open the notification panel, tap USB Connection Settings, and select the option Data transfer.
Problem #5: Side charging port not working

Few users say that they cannot charge the phone using the side charging port, even with the official charger and cable.
Possible solutions:

Problem #6: Random Reboot

Quite a few users are having issues with Asus ROG Phone 5 and 5S restarting automatically and randomly even with regular use.
Possible solutions:
- The culprit might be a rogue app. Check if the issue is still there in safe mode (you’ll find instructions below). If it doesn’t, remove any recently installed or updated apps and see if the problem goes away. You can also go to Settings>Advanced>Mobile Manager Clear application cache.
- The phone allows you to download and install dynamic themes from the built-in theme store. A few users found that the theme stopped working as expected after a recent software update and caused random reboots. Removing and reinstalling the theme seems to work.
Problem #7: Vibration does not work

Few of the users say that the phone does not vibrate when it receives notifications and alerts.
Possible solutions:
- This bug has an easy fix. Restart the phone. go to the Settings > Sound and vibration And adjust the volume control until it goes to vibrate mode. Toggle between off and on touch vibration. You can also adjust the intensity of the vibration in this menu.
Issues that require a software update

Asus ROG Phone 5 and 5S has some issues that don’t have solutions at the moment, and the only option is to wait for a software update.
- Android 12 has a lot of bugs: Some users are going through a buggy experience with the Android 12 update rolled out in March 2022. Asus has sent out several updates since then to make things better. Go to the Asus update page and look for the update from March 16, 2022 Android 12 to Android 11. Depending on your software version, you can downgrade to Android 11 if you want. Keep in mind that you may not be able to undo the software after a certain update.
- slow charging: Even when using a 65W charger, users say the phone is taking too long to charge, despite saying “65 overcharge.”
- Wi-Fi is slower than expected: Users say Wi-Fi connection speeds are incredibly slow after the Android 12 update. For some, going back to Android 11 seems to fix the problem. Until a permanent fix is available, switching the router to 20MHz bandwidth also works.

Boot into safe mode
If the phone is off
- Press and hold the power button until the Asus logo appears.
- When the logo appears, release the Power button and immediately press and hold the Volume Down key until the Home screen appears.
