Bangalore: The rice provided by the ‘Annabagya’ scheme is being smuggled and sold on the black market. In 14 months, 90,000 quintals of stored rice were confiscated in various districts of Karnataka.

The scheme is still in operation. This rice is sold by many in the external market and earns money. Such abuse is happening all over Karnataka. The Food and Public Distribution Department has taken steps to curb this.

In 14 months, 90,000 quintals of ration rice stored in various districts of the state were confiscated. From April 2021 to May 15 this year, 779 cases were registered in rice mills, warehouses, houses and lorries. 24 thousand 406 quintals in Mandya; 11 thousand 466 quintals of rice was confiscated in Kolar.

In these two districts, too much rice has been confiscated. Just two days ago, a case was registered for seizing 1,763 quintals of rice illegally stored at the Syed Modern Rice Mill in the Bangarpet industrial area, he said.
