More than a thousand years ago, the Vikings invaded Britain, Ireland and other countries. They significantly shape the conquered areas – for example in Dublin in the 10th century. The invaders influenced Irish culture and architecture. Through their large ports and fleets, they enable the slave trade. Sitric Silkbeard is Dublin’s last great Viking king. His death in 1042 marked the end of a roughly 200-year history shaped by Ivarr and his descendants.
