Maccabi Haifa is very close to completing its back squad for next season. The champion was looking for a left defender and apparently found him, after landing Pierre Corno in Israel today (Wednesday). The 25-year-old Frenchman, who comes from Oviedo from the second division in Spain, will undergo medical tests, after which he will sign a multi-year contract. He is expected to go out with the other players to the training camp in the Netherlands.
This will be joined by Swedish defender Daniel Sundgren as the second foreigner to come and strengthen the champion ahead of the 2022/23 season. Apart from him, Yinon Eliyahu and Nikita Rokavitsia, who returned for a second term, also signed.
Corno grew up in Montpellier’s youth department, but was unable to make his way to the seniors and played only in the reserve team. From there he moved to the Dijon reserve and then left for Spain to play for the Mallorca reserve team. After questions from Linense, Milwaukee Oviedo and Ibiza, he signed for Sabaday who was promoted to the Spanish second division and recorded a successful season that included six assists, but the team was relegated and he continued his wandering journey.
The pretentious Oviedo signed him for two years last summer and in the media he had 31 league games and three assists. The team that finished in seventh place in Segunda also built on Korno for next season, but he gained interest from several teams, including Toulouse who returned to the top league in France, but it seems that Maccabi Haifa’s offer was the best of them all.
