by time news

The IDF recently decided to shorten the period of imprisonment imposed on a soldier living in the hills of Judea and Samaria who was absent from service due to the evacuation of his home. The soldier, whose house in the Maoz Esther outpost was demolished about three months ago, was absent from the service without permission after failing to receive enough special vacation days to help rehabilitate his home. Following his absence lasting several days, he was sentenced to 30 days in jail. As part of an appeal he filed with the help of the Honno organization, his sentence was reduced to only 10 days in jail.

The soldier who filed an appeal with the assistance of Adv. Ophir Steiner of the Honno organization to the commander of a transport center on the disciplinary sentence, noted that his wife’s home and source of livelihood were destroyed in an instant and he felt a personal obligation to leave the army and provide shelter for his wife.

Advocate Ophir Steiner of the Honno organization who assisted the soldier said after receiving the appeal, “The soldier expressed great motivation in his service, while striving to make a significant contribution to the IDF as much as he could. But when he realized his wife was left homeless, However, he took responsibility for acting in violation of the rules required by the military and sought the consideration of the system in the face of the circumstances. Nevertheless, he was first punished with great severity. This is on the part of the senior command and we hope that in the future the direct command will also pay attention to the exceptional circumstances from home. “
