Goal: Sri Lanka batting collapse in the first match of the Test series against Australia. Batting first, Sri Lanka were all out for 212 on the first day. Nathan Lyon (5) and Mitchell Swepson (3) were the main contributors. Niroshan Dickwella was Sri Lanka’s top scorer with 58 runs. In reply, Australia were 97 for three at stumps on the first day. Usman Khawaja (47) and Travis Head (6) were at the crease.

Mathews and Dickwella led Sri Lanka to a breakthrough. Lyon broke the deadlock by knocking down Mathews for 39. Dickwella’s fight with Ramesh Mendis, who later scored 22, helped Sri Lanka cross the 200 mark. For Australia, Nathan Lyon took five wickets for 90 runs while Swapson took three wickets for 55 runs.
