Monkeypox virus has been diagnosed in a child in the Netherlands for the first time

HERA, the new health authority of the European Commission, signed a contract with Bavarian Nordic in mid-June for the purchase of nearly 110,000 vaccines. It is the first time that money from the European budget has been used to buy vaccines that are donated directly to the Member States.

As with the corona vaccines, the doses are divided according to the population of each Member State. It has been agreed with the Member States that the countries with a high number of infections will enjoy priority with regard to deliveries.

Since May 18, 2,682 infections with the monkeypox virus have been detected in 25 European countries. In Belgium, the latest weekly report from health institute Sciensano on June 21 mentions 77 confirmed cases and one probable case.
