Birmingham Test: Dravid hints that Rohit Sharma will play

by time news

Birmingham: Coach Rahul Dravid has hinted that captain Rohit Sharma will play in the Birmingham Test against England starting tomorrow. Dravid said in a pre-match press conference that there were still hours left for the match and therefore it could not be said now that the Kovid-affected Rohit would not play.

Earlier, PTI had quoted BCCI sources as saying that Rohit Sharma would not play in the Test starting on Friday in the Kovid test and in the absence of Rohit, and that pacer Jaspreet Bumra would lead India in Rohit’s absence. However, Dravid’s words suggest that Rohit, who is undergoing Kovid tests today and tomorrow, is likely to play if the result is negative.

‘Rohit is being monitored by the medical team. The possibility of playing in the fifth Test starting on Friday is not completely ruled out. If there is a negative test, Rohit is likely to play. There are still hours left for the match. Rohit Kovid will be tested late tonight and tomorrow.

‘If the result of those tests is negative, there is a chance that Rohit will play. I do not have to say that to the question of whether Jaspreet Bumra will be the captain instead if Rohit does not play. It is up to the selection committee headed by Chetan Sharma to decide, ”Dravid said.
