Colombo:

The government has banned the sale of petrol and diesel to the public amid a fuel crisis in Sri Lanka. Has announced that it will be provided only for essential service. But people have blamed the lack of fuel even for essential needs.

Teachers and medical staff staged a protest in front of the Chancellor’s office in Colombo. The country is in a state of paralysis as reports have surfaced that fuel is only available for a few more days in Sri Lanka. Protesting teachers and medical staff expressed anger at the government.

Jayantha Bandara, a doctor working at the Sri Lanka National Hospital in Colombo, accused the country’s health sector of being 90 percent paralyzed. The hospital staff blamed the fatal tragedy on the way patients were being taken to the hospital.

Joseph Stalin, a teacher involved in the struggle, said the Sri Lankan government could only paralyze the country. The government, though said to be running public transport, has been accused of not running buses in many places. In the context of the existing food shortage, the current fuel crisis is making the people of Sri Lanka even more miserable.
