Passage in orange vigilance for “heavy rains and thunderstorms”

by time news

It was planned and announced this morning: Guadeloupe will suffer, in the hours to come, the strengthening of the effects of the tropical wave, which is heading towards the Caribbean Sea, crossing the arc of the Lesser Antilles. The population is called to the greatest vigilance, in its movements.

As expected, Météo France issued, at the end of the afternoon of Friday 1is July 2022, an orange vigilance bulletin for “ heavy rain and thunderstorms for Guadeloupe. The population is therefore called upon to be extremely vigilant.

The meteorological center of Raizet maintains, for the moment, yellow vigilance, for ” waves-submergence and strong winds », as far as the archipelago is concerned. Ditto for Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthélemy, islands affected by heavy rainfall and strong winds.

The first stormy showers crossed Guadeloupe this afternoon.

Between 3 a.m. and 4 p.m., heavy rainfall was measured at Bouillante (30mm), on the Mamelles road (20.7mm), at Gros Morne Petit-Bourg (19.5mm), at Basses in Grand-Bourg de Marie-Galante (10.4mm) and La Désirade (9.1mm).

The strongest winds are those that blew at La Désirade (110 km/h), at Blanchet Morne-à-l’Eau (76.7 km/h) and at Christophe Goyave (72.4 km/h).

As reported in the morning, the effects of the tropical wave crossing the arc of the Lesser Antilles are now being felt more. And this is likely to go crescendo.

So don’t rely on the lull that appears at the end of the afternoon and the beginning of the evening; a resurgence of activity and an intensification of the rains are announced overnight and on Saturday morning.

The entire Archipelago is affected by the risk of torrential and stormy rains. These may be accompanied by strong gusts of wind and, as observed today, sleet. These rains are expected to continue for much of Saturday.
The clear improvement is expected from Saturday at the end of the day.

On the wind side, the Archipelago experiences gusts between 70 and 85km/h, even 90km/h to 100km/h, on the hills and the coast. These gusts persist until Saturday. They may be more virulent during thunderstorms.

The coastal areas to the east of Marie-Galante and Les Saintes are still exposed to the risk of marine flooding. The troughs could reach up to 3.5 meters in east to east-south-east swells overnight from Friday to Saturday. Unusual surf and localized flooding are possible on exposed coasts.
The amortization will be rapid, on Saturday morning.

The first rains are expected at the start of the night, in Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthélemy. The most significant rainy activity is expected on Saturday morning, with passages of heavy showers, sometimes stormy. The risk of heavy rain continues on Saturday, with thunderstorms that can affect the islands at the back of the wave. Significant accumulations of the order of 40 to 60mm in 3 hours are possible.

The passage of this active wave generates many gusts, between 70 and 85 km / h, even 90 km / h, in Saint-Barthélemy, especially during the night from Friday to Saturday and in the morning of Saturday.

Improvement is expected on Saturday evening.
