Hiring a bike mover is possible!

by time news

«Le moveit is polluting but we treat ourselves», here is the message of Zafar Baryali, co-founder of the low-cost moving brand Des Bras en plus. Until now, the company was already exploring a few ways to reduce the ecological footprint of this activity which is traditionally practiced with diesel trucks emitting fine particles. In particular, it carries out tests with light electric or gas vehicles, although it notes that the former still lack versatility, only allowing short-distance moves. Another interesting track: the optimization of journeys, to avoid empty journeys. Customers renouncing a specific moving date can opt for a “Flex-eco” offer which makes it possible to fill the trucks as well as possible, while sometimes greatly reducing the customer’s bill.

From now on, with the launch of the JUM offer (Just a piece of furniture), the brand is adding a string to its bow by allowing its customers to opt for transport by bicycle-trailer. The name of the service voluntarily turns away from the usual move because it also hopes to reach an audience wishing to simply move a very bulky object. Obviously, this mode of transport is not intended for all types of moves. Schematically, it concerns people living in a 15m² studio and needing 1 to 2m3 of volume. A need that would still correspond to 15 to 20% of the market.

Better to avoid the Norman wardrobe

Bookable online on the Get Jum website, the service is aimed at students and young working people. It is offered at a minimum rate of 60 euros, corresponding to one hour of maximum availability of the cycle remover (then 20 euros per additional quarter hour). As the system is collaborative, nothing prevents helping with loading to reduce time or, conversely, recruiting a second mover to have nothing to do.

Please note: the service is limited to objects weighing less than 80 kg (for safety reasons above all because the trailer can support up to 150 kg) and distances of less than 10 kilometres. Not sure that the Norman wardrobe inherited from Aunt Huguette could therefore be accepted. “With JUM, we are continuing our mission to democratize moving, Estime Zafar Baryali. Our brand already offers classic removals around 800 euros on average, while the traditional cost is rather 1500 euros and there we intend to offer, to young people in particular, a complete professional service at a low price and without deposit to be paid.

The brand can currently count on around fifteen bikes equipped in Paris and will offer three additional ones. The machines can, for example, move a sofa in one go in addition to a fridge or a few boxes, all traveling at 15 km/h. Size of the box, torque of the electric motor and type of brake, everything has been thought out to guarantee a move in complete safety. The company is counting on an average ticket of around 100 euros for this service (i.e. 1h30 to 2h of use).
