The daughter of former Iranian President Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani has been accused of carrying out anti-state propaganda and blasphemy in social media posts, the Iranian justice system said on Sunday.

“The indictment was taken out and referred to the court on charges of propaganda activities against the system of the Islamic Republic of Iran and defamation,” said Tehran chief prosecutor Ali Salehi. The accusations are related to things that Iranian former legislator and women’s rights activist Faiza Hashami reportedly said during a discussion on social media last April.

According to local media, Faiza Hashemi said that “Iran’s demand to remove the Revolutionary Guards from the US terror list is detrimental to the country’s national interests,” according to local media. The removal of the Revolutionary Guards’ terrorism designation is a key point of contention in negotiations on the return of the 2015 nuclear agreement with the world powers.

Faiza Hashemi also commented on Khadija, the wife of the ‘Prophet’ Muhammad. She called Khadija a “businesswoman,” and showed that women could also engage in economic activity, and the Prophet spent her money. She later said the comments were a joke with no intention of causing insult, she was charged with ‘desecration’, her sentence would be handed down at a later date, being the daughter of the former president did not help no and she was left without protection.
