Iranian news agency IRNA reports that Foreign Minister Amir Abdulhian is not initially ruling out a dialogue with Egypt after several decades of disengagement.

“So far we have not had direct negotiations with the Egyptian side,” he said, adding: “Egypt is an important country in the Islamic world and the development of relations between Tehran and Cairo is in the interest of the two peoples.”

He made the remarks in Damascus, where he began his visit with a round of meetings with the Syrian leadership as part of the dialogue between the two countries.

“Good progress has been made in part of the agreement, and it has been decided that I and my colleague, the Syrian Foreign Minister, will monitor some of the issues.”

He said, “We have had a conversation with Bashar al-Assad for more than two hours on various issues. One of our important missions at this stage is to investigate the possibility of a special military operation by Turkey in parts of Syria.

The Foreign Minister said: Tehran is trying to resolve this crisis and the problem between the two countries by political means, and we are rejecting a call for war.

Asked about the talks on Iran, Jordan and Egypt in Baghdad, the foreign minister said: We have not yet negotiated progress and development of relations directly with the Egyptian side, but some efforts are being made in the field. The framework for cooperation between the Islamic states of Tehran and Cairo should return to normal.

Amir Abdulhian stated: We now have an office of protection of interests in Cairo, and on the other hand, the other side has an office of protection of interests in Tehran. My explanation refers to the fact that Egypt is an important country in the Islamic world and we see the natural and developing relations between Tehran and Cairo in favor of the two countries, the two countries and the region.
