Wrong body buried – undertaker wanted to cover it up
In the Tyrol in Austria, there was a fatal mix-up last week. Instead of a 100-year-old dead woman in her coffin was a completely different person. The undertaker wanted to cover up the horror glitch.
When you bury a family member in a cemetery, you usually assume that the right person is in the coffin. Hard to imagine if you were to bury another person by mistake. But that’s exactly what happened last Tuesday in Austria in the Tyrol.
Family and friends gathered at the forest cemetery in the municipality of Fulpmes to bury a 100-year-old woman.
But what they didn’t know was that there was a completely different person in the coffin. Instead of the deceased elderly woman, an 85-year-old dead man lay in it. The reason: There had been a mix-up at the funeral home.
Employees noticed errors and went to the police
As reported by “Krone”, the 85-year-old was scheduled to be buried two days later. When the funeral home staff went to work and took the lid off the coffin, they noticed the mistake. In front of them was not the dead man, but the 100-year-old woman who had actually been buried two days earlier.
So they informed their boss about the horror glitch. But he didn’t want to know anything about it. On the contrary: He is said to have even asked his employees to cover up the matter. None! The employees went to the police. At the same time, the head of the undertaker drove to the crematorium with the body of the 100-year-old to cover up the traces. The dead should be cremated.
When the undertaker arrived at the crematorium, the police were already waiting for him there. The undertaker confirmed his confusion to the “Krone”. He didn’t want to say more about the incident. For the family and friends of the deceased 100-year-olds, the whole story still has a happy ending. She is now in the right grave. (ced)
