Mumbai: Indian Railways opens Sleeping Pod Hotel at CSMT. The bot is located near the waiting room on the main line of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus railway station, Central Railway said in its press release.

Indian Railways has launched Sleeping Pod Hotel at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), Mumbai. Sleeping pods are a concept that originated in Japan that allow passengers to rest at the train station without paying too much.

“Central Railways is taking new initiatives to increase revenue through toll-free revenue, which will benefit passengers and generate revenue for the Railways. A Pod Hotel has now been opened for passengers at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus in Mumbai,” Central Railway said in its press release.

“The Pod Hotel at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus Railway Station is being developed under the New Innovative Non-Toll Revenue Scheme (NINFRIS), which provides more comfortable and affordable accommodation options for travelers in Mumbai. Main Line Waiting Room at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus Railway Station,” the press release added. .

This hostel has a total of 40 rooms including 30 single rooms, 6 double rooms and 4 family rooms. Pod Hotels are set up as air-conditioned accommodation. Here, there are facilities like mobile charging facility, locker room facility, fire alarm, intercom, deluxe toilet & bathroom. These bots can be booked for hotels either directly on arrival or online via mobile app.

Trying to generate revenue in ways other than fares, the Railways are generating revenue through various non-tariff modes like hybrid OBHS contracts, DigiLockers, Personal Care Centres, e-bikes, e-charging points, etc.

It is to be noted that last year IRCTC Mumbai Central, West has launched a similar initiative to benefit passengers and generate revenue for the railways.
