Joe, the robot that helps children with asthma

by time news

Ludocare has launched a robot to help children aged 3 to 11 who suffer from asthma. This medical device works together with a mobile app that monitors the child’s evolution and collects data.

Ludocare, a young start-up from Lyon that was founded in 2017, has developed a robot companion for children with asthma. This robot is programmed to help the child take his treatment as well as automatic actions to live with the disease.

Everything is linked to a mobile app. It is enough to scan the drug prescribed by the doctor and enter the hours of its intake. The robot takes care of the rest: the child is addressed by the first name during the hours of treatment and the screen of the robot shows the actions it must take when taking the medicine. After each treatment, the child is entitled to a song, a story or a riddle as a reward.

In addition to the fun side, the device can also collect data about the follow-up of the treatment, in order to pass it on to the parents and the doctor.

The robot is only available in French and can recognize up to 22,000 different medicines. The device is connected to a database of the National Agency for Safety of Medicines and Health Products, so as not to miss any information.

Joe was tested on over 300 families for 3 years with great success. The young company has also decided to raise more than 4 million euros to conduct a large-scale clinical study throughout France.
