Pongalur: Coconut yield has increased due to good rains in the last two years. Most of the food is used for copra production. Due to the huge increase in copra production, the price of copra suffered a sharp decline. 90 is Rs. But in the external market, a kg was sold at 80 rupees. Coconut farmers were affected by falling coconut prices. In order to benefit the farmers, the government opened copra procurement centers last February. The procurement of copra will be completed by July. Despite the purchase of copra by the government, the external market price remains the same as it was then. For all the farmers, if the government had purchased copra, the price of coconut should have gone up. But, it did not rise like that. The main reason for the farmers not being able to sell copra directly is the problem of copra production. Some of the coconut farmers said that the purchase of copra by the government is just an eye-opening drama. This does not benefit the farmers. Farmers have no dryland infrastructure and labor facility. As a result, 99 percent of the farmers could not produce copra. Some traders sold copra in the name of farmers. Farmers can fully benefit only by purchasing coconuts. Otherwise it will be a scheme for traders, they said. Farmers can fully benefit only if coconut is procured. Otherwise it will be a scheme for dealers.
