Bobby Crimo, the alleged perpetrator of the Highland Park shooting, arrested Monday night driving his car by police after an eight-hour manhunt, has been identified as a 22-year-old with no history or background criminals. A native of this prosperous northern suburb of Chicago, he is suspected of having opened fire from a rooftop on Monday morning at the US National Day parade on the city’s main street, killing seven people and injuring around 30.
Police said he had been carefully planning his attack for weeks. Disguised as a woman, wearing a wig to hide his easily recognizable facial tattoos, Crimo reportedly fired more than 70 rounds at parade-goers, before abandoning his rifle on the roof where he was stationed. He would have mingled with the crowd before going to his mother, who lived in the neighborhood, and fleeing in her car.
