Even the recalls do not stop consumption: a moderate increase in the chocolate market

by time news

A global recall of Kinder, a local recall of Strauss and the labeling of high-sugar products did not reduce the Israelis’ chocolate consumption this year. In fact, based on data from the first half, the forecast is that in 2022 the entire revenue of the chocolate industry will amount to about NIS 1.75 billion, an increase of about 2% compared to 2021 – according to data from the business information company Coface Bdi produced on the occasion of International Chocolate Day.

“At the end of April, there was a shock in the local chocolate market, due to the recall process that Strauss carried out for many chocolate products,” says Tehila Yanai, co-CEO of the business information company Coface Bdi. At an average rate of about 5%.

“In addition, the ongoing crisis in the global supply chain has made it difficult for importers in the market to meet demand, due to the shortcomings created by the recall process. Given all that said, it is expected that by 2022 there will be a moderate increase of 2% -3% in market revenues.”

It should be noted that Strauss Group is the largest company in the chocolate market, with a share of about 35% -40%. Other players are Premium, which markets the brands Ferrero Roche and Nutella, Moshe Sids and his son, which markets, among others, the Tim Tam brand, Diplomat Distributors, which markets Milka, Oreo and Tobelron, Leiman Schlissl, which markets Hershey, Topifi and Loaker, Carmit Confectionery Industries and Unilever Israel Food.
