A four-year-old woman drowned in a bath in Netivot, a human condition

A four-year-old girl drowned tonight (Thursday) in a bathtub at her home in Netivot. Medical teams who arrived at the scene found her unconscious, performed resuscitation operations on her and evacuated her to the hospital in a critical condition.

At 17:46, an unconscious girl who drowned in the bath was received at MDA’s 101 hotline in the Negev. MDA medics and paramedics provided her with medical treatment and performed resuscitation, while evacuating her to Soroka Hospital.

MDA paramedic Ariel Elbaz and paramedic Maoz Weiberman said: “When we arrived at the house, we saw the toddler unconscious, with no pulse and no breathing. We were told she drowned in the bathtub. “We immediately began medical treatment and performed advanced resuscitation operations that included resuscitation, massage and medication and when her heart was beating again we evacuated her to the hospital with life-saving medical treatment when her condition was critical.”

According to the organization Before Child Safety, drowning is one of the major risk factors for child and adolescent mortality in accidents, in about 16% of cases. The mortality rate in the years 2017-2019 is 1.5 times higher compared to the years 2008-2010. In the last 5 years, about a hundred children and teenagers have drowned.
