The ongoing Wimbledon tennis series in London has reached its final stage. The women’s singles semi-finals were played yesterday.
In the first semi-final, Tunisia’s World No. 3 Once Jabeer defeated Germany’s Tatiana Maria 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 to enter the final.
This is the first time an African player has reached the final round of a Grand Slam tournament.
Elsewhere, 23rd-ranked Elina Rybakina of Kazakhstan advanced to the final with a 6-3, 6-3 win over former champion Simona Halep of Romania.
With this, she became the first Kazakhstan player to enter the Wimbledon final. Elina will face Zabir in the women’s singles final at Wimbledon tomorrow.
