The shootings at Babi Yar became one of the largest mass extermination of Jews during World War II. On September 29 and 30, 1941, more than 33 thousand Jews were killed on the outskirts of Kiev: the exact figure is 33 771. • The novel “Babi Yar” by Anatoly Kuznetsov is based on the writer’s childhood memories. He was born in Kiev, and in 1941 witnessed the atrocities of the Nazis against the civilian population.
