Tonight (Saturday), Knesset member and former mayor of Jerusalem, Nir Barkat, met with a group of American businessmen led by Joshua Yaakobi, in order to try and create an outline for the acquisition of Betar Jerusalem from Moshe Hogg.
This is not the first time that Barkat has tried to help Betar, when in the past as mayor he raised donations for Betar at the annual level, including NIS 4 million in 2013, when the group was on the verge of liquidation and an outline was created with the fans and businessmen. And the group stood on its feet.
The Knesset member is preparing an outline, according to which he will transfer a donation of NIS 5-4 million, which he will raise. In addition, there is the possibility that each of the businessmen will transfer an amount of about half a million dollars a season. This way it will be possible to operate the group, at least in the current phase and in the coming years.
When the outline is completed, the American representatives will sit down with Yitzhak Junger and examine whether a conclusion can be reached, but it is still unclear whether Moshe Celebrates’ position regarding the outline and whether he is willing to release the group, when he recently rejected a number of similar proposals.
