There are no modern items

Demonstrators broke into Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe’s private house and set it on fire, the Prime Minister’s Media Unit said.

A spokesman for the Prime Minister’s Office said that most of the items in the house inherited by Ranil Wickremesinghe were books.

The speaker noted that there were no modern items and only old furniture.

Even the tiles installed in the house are not modern and are said to be a type of old clay tiles.

Alari House was the official residence of the Prime Minister, but Ranil Wickremesinghe never visited Alari House when he was sworn in as Prime Minister and lived in this house located on Fifth Lane, Colombo.

A spokesperson close to the Prime Minister said that the house houses very ancient Buddha statues from various traditions and the rare books in Ranil Wickramasinghe’s library may not be found anywhere else in Sri Lanka.
