Hold accountable all those involved in violent incidents

The United States has urged the Sri Lankan government to take immediate action to find a long-term solution for the people of Sri Lanka.

A spokesperson for the US State Department also called for action to hold accountable those involved in protest-related violence.

As President Gotabaya Rajapaksa prepares to step down, the US is calling on the Sri Lankan Parliament to approach the moment it has created with a commitment to the nation’s progress.

Finding durable solutions

The spokesperson of the US State Department requested that solutions be found to achieve long-term economic stability and to address the discontent of the Sri Lankan people regarding the poor economic conditions, including electricity, food and fuel shortages.

He said that they would request the new, constitutionally elected government to act quickly.

The people of Sri Lanka have the right to raise their voices in a peaceful manner.

However, the spokesperson of the US State Department further emphasized that they call for the full investigation, arrest and prosecution of all those involved in the violent incidents related to the protest.
