Prepare for traffic jams: These are the expected blockages ahead of Biden’s visit to Israel

Ahead of US President Joe Biden’s visit to Israel, many roadblocks and traffic jams are expected beyond the city of Jerusalem. In the arteries leading to Jerusalem and throughout the city of Jerusalem, there may also be changes in the traffic arrangements in the main arteries leading to the city for short and periodic periods of time.

Thus, on Wednesday, Road No. 1 from the Shafirim Interchange to the Sakharov Interchange in both directions is expected to be closed to traffic. Access to Road 1 from Road 6 at the Ben Shemen Interchange and the Nesherim Interchange will also be blocked, and traffic will be diverted to Road 44, Road 444 and Road 443. According to the police, there will be additional road closures during the presidential visit.

Many blockages throughout Jerusalem

Starting at noon that day, the entrance to the city of Jerusalem from the Ginot Sakharov junction to the Yad Vashem Museum, through Weizmann Street and Herzl Boulevard to the Hantke junction, will be closed to traffic. Towards the end of Biden’s visit to the museum, the streets – Hantke, Herzl Blvd., Shmuel Bate in both directions will be closed to traffic and the ascent from Begin to Bate Road will be blocked. The section of Bezeq-Herzog Road, Gaza Street, Paris Square, Keren Hayesod and King David Street, which will remain closed until Friday afternoon, will also be closed.

On Thursday, starting in the morning / afternoon, the streets will be closed to traffic: King David – Jabotinsky in the direction of King David, Paris Square in the direction of Agron Street, Hillel – Menashe Ben Israel in the direction of Agron.

Later that day, the streets will be closed to vehicular traffic – King David-Jabotinsky to the President’s House, King Solomon – Karib to King David, Paris Square to Keren Hayesod, Bethlehem – Emek Refaim to King David, Dubnov to Jabotinsky Street, President Street corner Harry in the direction of the President’s House.

In the evening, ahead of US President Biden’s visit to the opening ceremony of the 21st Maccabiah to be held at Teddy Stadium, King David, Keren Hayesod, Gaza, Herzog and Golomb streets will be closed to traffic, and at the end of the ceremony in the opposite direction.

On Friday, the streets of Yitzhak Karib, Agron in both directions, King Shlomo, Sderot HaTzanhanim, Chayal Engineering, Haim Bar-Lev, Sderot HaU University and Yitzhak Hanadiv will be closed to traffic starting this morning.

Later that morning, the streets will be closed to vehicular traffic – Yitzhak Hanadiv, University Boulevard, Bar-Lev, The Paratroopers, King Solomon, Karib, Jerusalem Brigade, through Hebron in both directions to the Rachel crossing.

During the visit, more than 16,000 police officers will be on duty

According to the police announcement, during the days of the visit, more than 16,000 police officers, border fighters and volunteers will operate in an operation known as “Blue Shield 3.”

Despite the fact that Biden’s visit is already planned this week, the Ministry of Transportation has not yet issued a public announcement regarding the changes in the public transportation system.

It will be recalled that earlier today (Sunday) the Airports Authority announced changes in the departures at Ben Gurion Airport during Biden’s visit to Israel. Wednesday at 1 p.m. Domestic flights will take off from Terminal 1 unchanged.
