A protest was held in the 3rd Ward of Agaramel Panchayat under Poontamalli Union of Tiruvallur District in the local body by-elections.
Voting was held yesterday morning as the post of 3rd ward member was vacant in Akaramel panchayat under Poontamalli union of Tiruvallur district. In this, DMK, AIADMK and independents are contesting the elections.
In this ward, which has a total of 343 voters, polling was conducted briskly since morning. At the end of the polls, booth agents reported that 289 votes had been cast. But returning officers said 329 votes were cast. As a result, the AIADMK and independent candidates and their supporters started arguing with the election officials as to how the extra 40 votes were recorded.
They also protested by stopping the voting machines from being taken away. Due to this, there was a commotion for a while. If the election officials complain about this, they will inform the district collector and take appropriate action. Later, the ballot boxes containing the registered votes were taken away under heavy police security.
