Mass protest by Chinese citizens demanding their savings back after banks froze deposits for no apparent reason. The affair began last April, when at least four banks in China’s central Henan province froze deposits of at least $ 178 million, offering little information on the reason or for how long. Thus, suddenly, many citizens were left without access to their savings and many companies without the ability to pay employees. Since then, banks have not addressed the issue other than a general announcement that they are upgrading their internal systems.
