A thief who carried nearly 2,000 pounds of luxury goods from a fancy Scottish jewelry store was caught after her boss spotted her wearing the goods in pictures on social media. Taylor Thomson became suspicious after an internal audit of Fraser Hart in Edinburgh revealed that some items were missing from their inventory in February this year.

The store manager, Emma Davidson, concluded that the items were apparently stung by an employee and began scanning online accounts belonging to the team in search of clues. After noticing “similar-looking items” worn by Thomson in the photos, she called police who later warned and blamed the 22-year-old.

Thomson, who now works as a makeup artist for Herods, appeared on the platform in the Edinburgh Sheriff’s Court on Friday, where she admitted to stealing a number of items from the jewelers. It included a 1250-pound stainless steel Swiss watch, a 155-pound silver bracelet, a pair of 9-karat yellow hoop-style earrings with a 205-pound price tag and a 305-pound white gold diamond necklace.

The goods were stolen between June and October 2021 while Thomson was working at the Princess Street store. Fiscal deputy Duncan McKenzie told the court: “Between February 14 and February 18, 2022, an inventory was conducted of the on-site inventory.

“Eleven items could not be addressed. After inspecting all the usual places where the inventory was kept, it turned out that the belongings were most likely stolen by a staff member. The suspect was stolen, police said.

“On June 9, police officers attended Harrods Beauty where the defendant is currently employed. She received a warning about the theft. Police said she was wearing a watch similar to a watch that was reported stolen and the defendant removed it. She said her father bought it for her. It was a watch. Swiss stainless steel worth 1250 pounds, seized by police.

“With the defendant’s consent, officers conducted searches of her apartment and her parents’ address in Huddington. At her Edinburgh apartment, she initially directed officers to a bedroom that was not occupied by her. She broke down and said she was extremely stupid and actually stole the watch she gave officers earlier. , Including a silver bracelet worth £ 155 and a pair of 9ct yellow gold hoop style earrings worth £ 205.

“Another item that was not found was a 305-pound white gold diamond necklace. The defendant stated that it was broken during a night out and is no longer in her possession.”

Thomson’s lawyer told the court the watch was the first item she stole, but it was initially “accidentally”. He said: “She tried the watch because she was looking to buy something like that but forgot she was wearing it and then left (the store). After she found out, she chose not to return it.

“She realized how easy it was and then completed the theft of three more items. She regrets and fully pleaded guilty. She pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity and will now have a criminal record for theft that will cause difficulty going forward in life.”

Sheriff Alison Stirling wondered if any of the items could be resold if they had already been worn by Thomson, but that information was not available to the court at the time.

She responded: “I would not want to pay for a watch that someone else stole and that someone else is wearing.”
