Canon launches a pair of wide and stabilized light lenses with close-up capabilities (July 2022)

by time news

Cannon launched earlier today a pair of new wide-angle lenses for the RF mount – the RF 24mm f / 1.8 MACRO IS STM and the RF 15-30mm f / 4.5-6.3 IS STM. Both lenses are stabilized, including a focus motor that is also suitable for video work with good close-up capabilities and they are small and relatively light and cover full-frame sensors.

RF 24mm f/1.8 MACRO IS STM

Canon’s wide and compact frame lens (only 270 grams) with 11 elements in 9 groups provides a nice magnification ratio of 1: 2 (not a full macro but excellent for close-ups) with a minimum focusing distance of 14 cm.

The lens has 9 aperture blades, a quiet and fast STM type focusing motor (also adapted for video), a 5-stop built-in stabilizer (6.5 stops on Canon support cameras), a 52 mm filter, a control ring and AF / MF buttons and activation / deactivation of the stabilizer.

Another compact wide-angle lens (390 g) with FF coverage is the RF 15-30mm F / 4.5-6.3 IS STM. It is expected to be a significantly slower and cheaper option relative toRF 15-35MM F2.8L IS USM is suitable for travel photographers, landscape and anyone looking for an accessible and lightweight option with an ultra-wide to wide angle.

The lens has 13 elements in 11 groups, a magnification ratio of 1: 2 with a minimum focusing distance of 13 cm, 7 aperture blades, a built-in stabilizer (a fairly rare business with ultra-wide lenses) and a 67 mm filter.

Prices

Canon has chosen to launch both of these lenses at fairly affordable prices (certainly relative to the pricing of some of the company’s other lenses from recent years). The 24mm f / 1.8 MACRO IS STM RF lens will sell for around $ 600 while the 15-30mm f / 4.5-6.3 IS STM RF lens will cost around $ 550.
