Portsmouth North MP Benny Mordant, who was defense secretary under former prime minister Theresa May and is now international trade minister, is backed by almost 20% of Tory members in a Conservative Home poll.
Following Mordant, former local government minister Kemi Badenoch is backed by almost 19 per cent of Tory members, followed by former finance minister Rishi Sunak in third place with 12 per cent, the poll shows.

Around 842 Tory members were polled in the Conservative Home survey, but the party currently has around 200,000 members. In the last leadership contest in 2019, when Boris Johnson was elected, 87% of the vote was recorded.
Around 11 people are currently contesting for the post of Prime Minister. Polling will be held in multiple rounds. Candidates 20 nominations from other Tory MPs must be officially considered by the end of today.
