A report by the EU Commission points to gaps in numerous member states, including Austria.
“Now we have to put our own order in order.” In its annual rule of law report, the EU Commission gives out praise but also a lot of criticism against the background of the Russian invasion of Ukraine – an attack on fundamental European values, which EU Justice Commissioner Věra Jourová at the presentation in Luxembourg yesterday, Wednesday. For the first time, the Brussels authorities examined four cornerstones of the legal system in all 27 EU countries: the judicial system, corruption, freedom of the media and institutional balance – and Austria didn’t get off scot-free either.
