Tensions. The minister delegate in charge of transport Clément Beaune, denounced this Wednesday, July 13 on LCI the “extremely hurtful remarks” of the former mayor of Beauvais, Caroline Cayeux against marriage for all. On Tuesday, the Public Senate asked the Minister Delegate in charge of Local Authorities if she maintained old “declarations on marriage for all and adoption for same-sex couples, qualified as whim reform and of purpose that goes against nature ».

Caroline Cayeux then defended herself, while maintaining her words of 9 years ago: “I obviously stand by my words, but I have always said that the law, if it were passed, I would apply it. And then, I’m going to tell you, all the same, that I have many friends among all these people. Frankly, it’s a bad trial that I’m being made and it upset me a lot. »

“I am one of those people” reacted Clément Beaune. “I’m not saying this as an individual, I’m saying it out of political conviction: for the fight for equality, against extremes and for the values that are close to my heart,” he added. The former Minister Delegate for European Affairs, who had already denounced governments who discriminate against LGBT people, recalled the political commitments made by Emmanuel Macron, Élisabeth Borne and his government, in favor of equality for all: “Defending marriage for all, PMA, the fight against conversion therapy, that’s what I want to remember »

Faced with the reactions provoked by her statements, she apologized in a tweet : “I deeply regret them, they were naturally inappropriate”
