Riyadh: The General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) has decided to open the entire airspace of Saudi Arabia for international traffic. The decision is effective from Friday.

With this, flights from countries that were not previously opened can also fly over Saudi Arabia subject to the conditions of ‘GACA’. The decision was taken in the context of US President Joe Biden’s visit.

This move is for the purpose of turning Saudi Arabia into a global hub that connects the three continents, it has been stated in the ‘GACA’ press release. The officials added that the access to the vital Saudi airspace for all flights would establish seamless international air transport connectivity.

GACA officials said in a press release that Saudi Arabia’s new decision is in line with the 1944 Chicago Convention, which stipulates non-discrimination between passenger aircraft operating in international aviation.
