Avinasi: Velayuthampalayam Panchayat near Avinashi includes the areas of Attaiyampalayam, Kasikoundambudur, Pulakattu Palayam, Chinna Karyuthampalayam, Periya Kiruthampalayam and Rayan Temple Colony. Starting from Attaiyampalayam and starting at Velayuthampalayam bypass road, 2 km, the road is in a bad condition with bumps and potholes. It has been lying idle for the last four years. Under Sampoorna Gram’s Rojkar Yojana employment guarantee scheme, the toilet for women and girls, built 21 years ago, has no water supply. The walls are crumbling at many places, weak and unsafe, and bushes are lying around. At the beginning of Attaiampalayam, garbage has been piled up on both sides of the road. While the wastes constructed under the compostable and non-biodegradable waste sorting scheme are not being used, the wastes are dumped on the road next to it. Near the ration shop, a water treatment plant was constructed near the ration shop at a cost of nine lakh rupees under the allocation of funds from the Rural Development Planning Agency. Regarding these issues, panchayat leader Shanti said: As the highway department is under control, the road can be laid only after tendering. Last month, we submitted a petition through the panchayat. We are cleaning the integrated sanitary women’s toilet with proper staff and making arrangements for water. We have been waiting for the last two years because the Gudi Neer RO plant needs electricity. He said that it is because of lack of staff that garbage cannot be cleaned properly.
