Kottarakkara: Kalipund woman’s relative set fire to young man’s house in love marriage. G. Sreekumar set fire to Deenu’s house in Charuvila Puthanveet east of Pallikal. In love, Kalipoond burnt down the groom’s house, but the marriage did not end. Deenu and Athira’s marriage was possible despite fierce opposition.

Deenu’s house was set on fire on Friday morning. An engineering graduate, everything including his certificate and Aadhaar was burnt. TV Household appliances were also destroyed. In connection with the incident, the police arrested G. Sreekumar (33), a relative of the woman, at Plavila house, east of Pallikal.

Sreekumar had already opposed Deenu and Athira’s romance. Sreekumar set the house on fire on Friday morning when they were going to get married on Saturday. Deenu’s mother Rajina and father Thangaappan, who were in the house, shifted to another place and a major tragedy was avoided. The young man who set fire to the sheet-covered house had also left the gas cylinders open. The locals and the fire brigade who reached the spot quickly switched off the cylinders and a major disaster was averted. All household items including the bed and TV were destroyed.

It is reported that the family moved to another place at night because they were sure that Sreekumar would commit violence. After the marriage at Mathil Kav temple on Saturday, everyone moved to Regina’s house in Karam. Kottarakkara C.I. Sreekumar was arrested by a team led by VS Prashanth. He was produced in court and remanded.
