In front of the Guggenheim Museum in Manhattan, French tourists are numerous on Sunday July 17 in the morning. Some linger in front of the souvenir stand, but at six euros for a magnet and 25 euros for a poster, not many of them take out their wallets.

« We were expecting high prices, but it’s true that there, everything seems overpriced!laments one of them. It’s a little more expensive than we had expected and thought. »

And even tasting the inescapable New York specialties can reserve very expensive surprises: the four hot dog are sold the equivalent of forty euros.

Reduce program and expenses

With a euro now equal to the dollar, European tourists have lost the advantage of their currency for a week. Those who had planned their stay for a long time had to readjust the program.

« We restrict a lot explains a tourist. Instead of doing 4-5 museums, we only do two. We reduce the number of days of stay, we reduce our expenses. »

Everyone develops their own strategy: it’s true that at six, we don’t go to a restaurant, we go to street food. But we took passes, we still enjoy the holidays and the citye. »

According to experts, the heyday of the dollar against the euro should last at least a few months. And if inflation also persists, European tourists will have to pay more and more for their trip to the United States.
