EU budget for joint procurement of ammunition

by time news

The Union agrees on an additional half a billion euros for arms to Kyiv. Another half billion is to fill the shortage of artillery shells.

On Tuesday, the European Commission will present its proposal for a regulation that will provide 500 million euros from the Union budget over two years to “fill the most urgent and critical gaps” in its armaments stocks. This was confirmed to the “Presse” by two independent Brussels sources.

This money should primarily be used for the joint procurement of ammunition for heavy artillery by at least three member states (plus Norway, which is participating as a non-EU state and could play an interesting role with the state’s participation in the ammunition manufacturer Nammo). After all, as a result of the massive deliveries of such artillery shells to the Ukrainian armed forces since the Russian raid on February 24, the stocks of several European armed forces have fallen sharply. The joint procurement project, worth half a billion euros, is intended to help prevent member states from competing to replenish their arsenals and driving up prices.
