Islamabad: Pakistan’s ‘Jirga’ (tribal council) bans women from tourist spots. The jirga also warned that if the government does not impose a ban on women entering tourist spots, they will take it upon themselves to enforce it. A jirga is a council of tribal chiefs in the Bajor tribal district of Pakistan. Pakistani newspaper Dawn reported that the local wing of prominent party Jamiat-ul-Ulama-e-Islam Fazl (JUF) has issued a warning.

They say that women are not allowed to enter these tourist centers even if they are accompanied by their husbands or male relatives. They demand that women should be kept away from the tourist centers completely. Bajor tribal district has many tourist attractions. They argue that women visiting these tourist destinations are against the values and traditions of Pakistan and Islam. Jirga members said that immoral and unethical things are being done here under the guise of tourism. They say that hundreds of women came here on the last Sacrifice Day for entertainment, and this is a national disaster. The committee members said that women cannot be allowed to walk freely.

Pakistan ranks second in terms of gender equality in the Global Gender Gap Report released by the WEF on Wednesday. This report is very important in current events developments. Meanwhile, the government or government representatives have not yet responded to the Jirga’s demand.
