Girondins de Bordeaux: the Court affirms that the club is not in default

A green light from the Court of Bordeaux feeds the hope of a favorable outcome on the Atlantic coast. Despite the call from the Girondins de Bordeaux, the DNCG had decided to administratively downgrade the club to National 1, which meant Bordeaux filed for bankruptcy. Gérard Lopez and the leaders keep the accounts and appeal to the CNOSF, before which they will go to committee on Thursday to defend the financial solidity of their file, and to know definitively the decision which will determine the future of the Girondins de Bordeaux.

This Tuesday, FC Girondins de Bordeaux published a press release in which the club explains that “the Court of Bordeaux has approved the conciliation agreement concluded between FCGB and its creditors”. This responds to a fear of the DNCG, concerning the agreements between the Girondins and the American fund Fortress in particular.

“The Court found that FC Girondins de Bordeaux is not in a state of insolvency and that the terms of the agreement ensure the sustainability of the club in the context of its maintenance in Ligue 2. (…) The Court confirms the current and future financial strength of the club,” read the statement. The Girondins de Bordeaux arrive before the CNOSF confident of the solidity of their file, claiming to have given solid and tangible financial answers to allow the club to assume the entire season in Ligue 2.

The Ligue 2 season resumes on July 30 and time is running out for FCGB. The Girondins claim to have simplified their file as much as possible, explaining in transparency the financial guarantees. If the decision of the CNOSF is still not positive, there will remain in Bordeaux the hope of a last appeal in summary proceedings to the Administrative Court.
